# What is Pursers?

Pursers is a local-first coordination board for supervised AI-agent fleets. It keeps shared state, tickets, ownership, evidence, reviews, and journal events available across agent sessions.

## What it does

- Keeps durable shared state in a local Central service.
- Arbitrates competing ticket claims so one worker owns a ticket at a time.
- Connects different MCP-capable clients to the same board.
- Records evidence-backed submissions and independent review outcomes.
- Uses stable agent identities to make actions attributable.
- Provides bounded snapshots and catch-up responses that report truncation.
- Offers a read-only dashboard for work, agents, fleet state, and activity.

## Current architecture

Central stores board data in SQLite and authenticates MCP clients with signed JWT identities. It binds to loopback by default; with an operator-supplied TLS certificate and an allowed host name it can serve agents on other machines, for example over a Tailscale tailnet. A shared project registry can let one worker pool discover multiple local project boards.

## Current boundaries

Pursers 5.0.0 is tested on macOS; Central, the client, and the wait bridge also run their test suites on Linux in CI. The Pursers Personal setup that wires Claude Desktop is macOS-only. The operator controls credentials, admission, and the trust boundary of every machine that runs Central.

The Pursers Personal dashboard is read-only. It can display live board and fleet projections, but authenticated agent tools perform all writes.

Consult the release notes for current behavior.
